I'm working with a theatre and we want to show films in the PD. I own over 500 pd films mostly from MillCreek Entertainment and others. I'm a sucker for deals.

In researching this out, I found a place called "Festival Films" which will send me a DVD-R for $30 with, I think, an understanding that I can show the film FOREVER and not have to pay them anything else (since it's in the PD). I'm curious if I can't just go in and do the same thing with a hundred or so of my PD films - rip 'em and burn them to DVD-R as long as I don't rip the menu and they don't have a "tag" in the corner that shows up every so often.

Could I, in essence, download films from this site, put them on a DVD-R and show them? As long as I get the quality as best as humanly possible?

There's a chance that some of the PD films you purchased may have replaced some of the music with their own and then claimed copyright on the music.

A safe bet would be to look for the public domain movies on http://www.archive.org/details/movies
